The Brief
To build a relatable connection between Viennese Modernism and Chinese travelers, as a platform to generate interest in Vienna's heritage and encourage them to visit the city.
The Idea
In the Chinese village of Dafen, five million artwork replicas are produced annually, mostly from well-known masterpieces. What if there was a Gustav Klimt specialist in Dafen?
Enter Mr. Xiu Chun Gan, a replica artist specialised in Gustav Klimt paintings, that had never actually seen a real Gustav Klimt painting. So we invited him to Vienna to change that. And immerse himself in the world of Gustav Klimt to do what he does best; To create a replica in front of Klimt’s best known painting, ‘Kiss’.
To extend the reach of the campaign, we also partnered with Linfang, a famous lifestyle influencer to document Xiu's journey. Together, they explored attractions across Vienna promoting the city and it's heritage on a wide array of major video platforms, including Weibo, WeChat, travel blogs and even in-flight entertainment programming on Air China.
